The position assists the Director of Financial Aid in the office of Student Financial Services (SFS), a one-stop-shop that provides the primary, first-line consultation to students and families, as well as employees regarding financial aid issues. The Student Loan and Grants Coordinator will be responsible for the management of all University educational loan and Federal Pell Grant processing and retrieval/reconciliation of student financial data from the Department of Education in order to administer Federal Title IV student aid and related program. This position is also responsible for ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations with both programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Management of the University’s educational loan programs totaling nearly $20M; including the Federal Direct Loan program and private/alternative loans. This includes data exchange and reporting from the Department of Education and private lenders, awarding of student loans in alignment with federal financial aid regulations and management of communication to student/parent borrowers as required by the individual loan programs.
- Responsible for the implementation of debt management information/training for borrowers in an effort to promote responsible educational borrowing and minimize default.
- Management of FAFSA/ISIR data validation. Pell Grant and loan billing and reconciliation from the Department of Education into the University’s data management system (Ellucian/Banner) including matching/resolution of duplicate records and corrections/error processing.
- Provides counsel to students and parents related financial aid process and programs.
- Provides administrative assistance to the Director as needed.
- Researches, interprets, and applies policies for financial aid to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. Keeps staff up to date on rules and regulations, which effects needed University policy changes to remain in compliance.
- Works closely with the Information Technology Department to maximize the use of the student information system, as well as other technical resources and platforms in the delivery of student financial aid.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Financial Aid.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position does not have supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

Minimum Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent professional experience.
- Five years of pertinent experience working in data management and reconciliation with customer service. Preferably student financial services, in a higher education setting.
- Familiarity with computerized accounting/administrative and student information systems; Banner experience helpful.
- Proficiency with spreadsheet, word processing, database, and other PC-based software tools
- Strong analytical, organizational, inter-personal and management skills
- High ethical values and integrity to handle confidential information.
- Knowledge of federal (Title IV) and state regulations related to financial aid helpful.
- Ability to prioritize in a complex environment, while successfully managing multiple projects and deadlines
- Strong customer service and problem resolution skills
