Assistant Professor/Interim Coordinator of Creative Media

Since 1992 Eric Hector has been the Owner/Creative Director of Heroic Age Studios. Through Heroic Age, Eric works as an artist, designer, producer, writer, and director for comic books, television commercials, corporate videos, documentaries, animations, short films, and live-action features.

Eric's principal areas of teaching include storytelling, screenwriting, and topics in comic books, as well as preproduction, production, and postproduction for video and cinema.

Eric has an MFA in Creative Writing from Southern New Hampshire University and a BFA in Commercial Art and Computer Design from Millikin University. He is a lifetime member of The Digital Cinema Society and under his leadership, his studio’s work has won countless Davey, Ava, Communicator, and Telly awards.

Eric pioneered the method for the first Photoshop-colored, monthly comic book in the history of Marvel Entertainment ushering in an industry-wide standard. He co-developed the first “5-Color” comic book in DC Comic’s history. Eric also founded the Heroic Age Art Centerwhich serves as a hub for artistic entrepreneurs. He is the co-founder of the EVR Experience, one of the first virtual reality laboratory/arcades in Central Illinois. Eric is also the writer/director of the feature film "Trick and Treats" starring Malcolm McDowell, scheduled for a 2024 release.

Eric has worked on projects involving some of the most recognizable intellectual properties on the planet, from Star Wars, Beauty and the Beast, and Scooby-Doo, to Batman, Spider-Man, and Sonic the Hedgehog.

A few of Eric’s clients include ABC Television, Acclaim, ADM, Archie Comics, Dark Horse Entertainment, DC Comics, Disney, Image, Kraft Foods, Marvel Entertainment, National Geographic, The Discovery Channel, The Illinois Secretary of State, The Illinois State Bar Association, The National Dental Association, and Warner Brothers, as well as numerous advertising agencies and film producers.
