Paraprofessional, Intern & Mentor Roles
EDGE Mentor
EDGE Mentors are upper-class students who support first-year EDGE students in their transition to university life. They serve as role models, accountability partners, and referral agents, connecting students to campus resources, faculty, and Student Affairs staff. Through one-on-one meetings, EDGE Mentors help with academic skill-building, goal setting, and campus engagement, creating a strong foundation for students’ first year.
Resident Assistant
The Resident Assistant (RA) is an integral part residential student life. RAs are assigned to oversee and live on a floor(s) of approximately 14-35 individuals, and their primary responsibility is to act as a representative of the Office of Campus Life for the residence hall communities. The RA articulates to students the philosophy and policies of the Office of Campus Life and the University, as RAs are expected to be role models in all facets of university life.
Student Experience Ambassador (SEA)
Student Experience Ambassadors are sophomore, junior or senior students who have a desire to aid new students in the transition from their previous school to Millikin. SEAs are trained in developmental conversations, student success topic presentations, and mediation. SEAs are well versed in aiding in student success and acclimation to college student success. Wellness Peer Advocates (WPA)
Wellness Peer Advocates (WPAs) are upper-class student leaders who cultivate and foster a campus culture of holistic wellness. They develop and host wellness events, promote wellness messages and provide peer support during regular office hours. Because students are multi-faceted individuals, WPAs promote multiple dimensions of wellness: emotional, environmental, educational, social, spiritual, intellectual, physical and financial.
LV Scholar Mentor
This Paraprofessional role will provide academic support, serve as a resource during Summer Leadership Academy and the academic year, as well as create a sense of belonging through social connections to Long-Vanderburg (LV) Scholars. This includes first-year LV Scholars who live in the LV Living-Learning Community. To obtain this role, students would have to be a Long-Vanderburg Scholar and have a junior or senior standing.
Student Organization Leader
An involved student is one who devotes considerable energy to academics, spends much time on campus, participates actively in student organizations/activities and interacts often with faculty. Millikin University has over 75 registered student organizations.
Fraternity & Sorority Life
The fraternity and sorority community at Millikin University includes five men's fraternities and six women's sororities. These organizations provide housing and support for approximately 25% of the Millikin University student body. Millikin's fraternity and sorority community is dedicated to many things, but most of all, strives to help others reach their greatest potential and to improve the community, working to develop better men and better women.
