The beloved two-time, Emmy-nominated comedian and actress from Abbott Elementary brings her one-of-a-kind humor to the Kirkland stage. 

Currently starring as Principal Ava Coleman in the popular sitcom “Abbott Elementary,” Janelle James is a New York/Los Angeles-based comedian and actress who has been nominated for two Primetime Emmy Awards, and a Golden Globe, Critics’ Choice and Independent Spirit Award. An accomplished television writer, as well as onscreen talent and gem, her writing credits include “Black Monday” and her own comedy album, “Black and Mild.” Named one of Variety’s 10 Comics to Watch for in 2020, her stand-up has been featured on Netflix’s “The Comedy Lineup.” In 2023, she was the host of the Writers Guild of America Awards. She holds a Black Reel Award, Screen Actors Guild Award and NAACP Image Award. Kirkland Fine Arts Center is pleased to present this star of the stage and screen to the Decatur community.
