Dr. Jerry Hunt was, by all accounts, a man with a quiet strength — the kind of person who would fight hard for the people and ideas he believed in. After earning his master's degree at Ohio State and his Ph.D. at the University of Michigan, he built a 32-year career at Millikin as Professor and Director of Teacher Education, mentoring thousands of students and shaping conversations about education across the Illinois community. He also served on the Illinois Teacher Certification Board, extending his influence on education policy well beyond Millikin’s campus. Dr. Hunt was a dedicated member of Phi Delta Kappa, the Lions Club, Golden K-Kiwanis, and the Decatur Public Library. He loved jazz, maps, sports — especially Millikin Basketball — and traveling the world. He passed away peacefully on Good Friday at age 90, surrounded by his wife, Phyllis, and son, Brian.
