Unity Festival

DECATUR – Millikin University’s University Commons and Miller Quad will be bustling with activity on Saturday, May 3, when the campus hosts the annual Unity Festival and Midwest Music Expo (MmX)

Unity Fest
The Unity Fesitval returns to Millikin on Saturday.

The annual Unity Festival is hosted by the International Student Organization (ISO), Long Vanderburg Scholars (LV), Latin American Student Organization (LASO), and Asian Student Association (ASA) and offers opportunities for students and community members to experience, enjoy and celebrate with cultures and identities across campus in one location.

Gladiator joust
Millikin students joust each other at the 2024 Unity Festival.

Unity Fest is free and runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Miller Quad. Attendees can enjoy food trucks, vendors, and many activities, including a bungee run, gladiator joust, dunk tanks (possibly featuring some of your favorite Millikin staff and faculty willing to risk getting dunked), and food trucks from around the community.

Midwest Music Festival

Millikin also hosts the 2025 edition of the annual Midwest Music Expo (MmX) on Saturday in the University Commons.

The Expo will feature speakers, artists, and vendors from all over the Midwest and is produced by Millikin University Music Business students. MmX is curated by Grammy Award-winning punk rocker Martin Atkins, Millikin School of Music Instructor and Coordinator of the Music Business program.

In his long career in the music business, Atkins has headlined events across the country, playing with such bands as Public Image Ltd, Killing Joke, Ministry, Nine Inch Nails, and his own supergroup Pigface, which Revolver Magazine has ranked among the top 12 Greatest Supergroups.

Tickets to MmX are $20, and for a complete schedule and list of panelists, check out the MmX webpage

The 2025 edition of MmX is perfect for anyone interested in making music, art, or gaining insight into creative entrepreneurship. There will be something for all: Singers, songwriters, musicians, producers, DJs, managers, podcasters, bloggers, designers, artists – from amateurs to pros.

Two live music stages (one near the University Commons and another on Miller Quad) will feature musical performances all day.
