Global Entrepreneurship & Educational Experiences 

We're excited to provide three innovative entrepreneurship opportunities for community members in 2026, led by Professor Julienne Shields, Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship, and in collaboration with Millikin’s Education Department, Centro Studi Italiani in Urbania and Sardovaya in Sri Lanka. 

Deadline to Register: December 15 for community and alumni. ($1000 deposit due at that time). The deposit is refundable if the program does not make full capacity. Students must follow the normal registration process and international scholarship/fellowship calendar published by the Center for International Education.

  • Transform Communities and Yourself in Sri Lanka! 

    Why This Course Matters: 

    Dive into the world of social entrepreneurship in Sri Lanka, where you'll work on sustainable community projects and empower women entrepreneurs in the tourism industry. 

    Overview: 

    Participants will work side-by-side with the respected Sarvodaya, Sri Lanka's 67-year-old grassroots community development organization. In addition, you’ll work with local entrepreneurs in the tourism industry to address real social challenges and explore sustainable business solutions that create positive impact for their respective businesses. These solutions will inform innovations back in the U.S. for emerging and nascent entrepreneurs.

    Open to all students, alumni and community members passionate about making a social impact and learning about social entrepreneurship through immersive experiences.

    *Includes a $800 airfare allowance, lodging, meals and program activities.

Experience the MOF methodology, a groundbreaking innovation from Finland that has been interpreted and blended throughout Italy - birthplace of both the Reggio Emilia and Montessori approaches, and transform your organization’s teaching with cutting-edge strategies. This program offers a rare opportunity to experience this innovative teaching method firsthand - in classrooms from Pre-K to higher education.

    This exclusive opportunity is open to all experienced and aspiring educators and administrators eager to elevate their teaching skills and explore impactful innovative approaches.

    *Includes lodging, ground transportation, school visits and 10 meals.

    Overview: 

    Experience creative business ventures in Bologna and Urbania. Meet Italian artisans, visit creative studios, vinotecas and family restaurants while discovering how creativity and commerce intersect. Perfect for culinary enthusiasts, restaurant connoisseurs and arts entrepreneurs seeking authentic Italian cultural immersion.

    Who Can Join: 

    Open to students, alumni and community members who are passionate about arts, theater, music and culinary fields who are ready to explore the intersection of arts and innovation.

    Cost: $2,995 per person/double occupancy. 
    *Additional $500 community participation fee for non-students.
